Yet Another Week….

Helllooo!!! I'm back! Oh right… like you guys were eagerly waiting for yet another post. Oh well… Helen's still on leave, prolly still enjoying the sun on the tiny islands in Maldives. One lucky lady eh? Maldives…. Tt's normally a paradise on earth that perhaps some could only dream of… and she spent like what? Only 4 days there?! what a waste…. But I guess work commitments just spell a short getaway.. At least she gets a breather.

Anyways, we got our fair share of press time on Sunday eh? Just short of hitting the headlines on the straits times cover page.. What other hooha could it be this time other than the tvc's that a currently being aired. What do you guys think of the ad anyway? The people at home were commenting that the positive comments we got that were published in the papers seemingly came only from nus-ians. I din't really notice but well, we should embrace the idea and support the ad shouldn't we? Shall not further comment on it.

I really aint got any refreshing idea as to what to put up here and I so suspect my posts are sounding so like my blog's posts… just a little issue I have with getting used to uni life… OK… I know it's already been a year, but a personal issue I have with sch life all this while has been the lack of having a class. Well… it could just be me who's feeling having a class would make life much better. Of cos having a standard class would mean the bidding system wouldn't come into play. But a personal opinion is that a class would make a world of a difference because you really get to make proper friends and all. Of cos if you're someone who's really active in cca's, orientation and hostel life, it's different. But if you're not… I can safely say the so-called friends you make in sch are merely hi-bye acquaintances whom after completion of that module you got to know him'her through, it's bye bye. You don't make friends who are those going out khaki kind. Is it just me who has an issue with this? Or there are like minded souls ard?

Ok.. I know I'm so going to get shot for the following. When we first entered uni, we must have been 18/19 years old right? Did your parents get so very concerned and gan chiong over your sch affairs that they started calling up whatever numbers they could get their hands on to make enquiries or absurd requests? I find it all very out of the world. Well, excluding the ns guys who are most of the time uncontactable and parents have to do certain things on their behalf, the rest are 19 just 2 years short of adulthood and parents still babysitting if I may say. I so suspect it's a singaporean thingy. Thank god my parents operated on a laissez-faire basis, might be a wrong choice of words but u get what I mean right? Like… when you're this old, you should learn to be independent!!!

Oh well… enough grousing for a Monday morning… must be the Monday blues. :p

Adiós

Cheryl

i actually do not like the way this post is written. We are a business school and i think even when we blog, we have to maintain the relevancy angle. This BBA blog was intended to be a insider (from BBA office admin's point of view) perspective on matters of relevance to the usual BBA student. Comments are a great way to evaluate the relevance factor and connection with the audience. I have been tracking the traffic statistics on BBA blog and it has plunged 75% since the exam period.

Perhaps the current student bloggers should contemplate more on important issues and not treat this BBA blog as a personal blog? Feel free to experiment but do take a leaf from other corporate blogs ( yes, i consider BBA a corporate blog, if we want this blog to be student centric, then it would have been an initiative of Bizad Club and Not the BBA Undergraduate Office)such as the ROSS BBA blog and blogs from microsoft, Google and also General Motors. Email me directly at lee.bjorn@gmail.com for further queries since I know Helen is busy and out of town at the moment.

Hello Cheryl,

Well you lucky dear got your independence early. Perhaps it's true, most people do become "hi-bye" acquaintances. But making friendships where it's hard to make any also requires a kind of independence, no?

cheers

Lynn

may i know what issue are you referring to? I am a BBA undergraduate enlisting this year, & I do not like to be viewed upon this way. Please do not make hasty generalizations. I regret to say this, but you are not reacting maturely to the situation.

to michelle:
alright, admit it was overly generalized the way that para was put across but be assured i wasn't referring to EVERY SINGLE incoming student. just events that took place recently that sparked that post. :) no offence eh?

to Bjorn:
No doubt the this blog was meant to be an insider perspective but i have to point out that as students here i really have nothing too 'corporate' to talk about. but will try to improve on future posts though.

i agree about the part on friends we make being jez merely hi-bye aquaintances.

even though the biz sch does put together many events in a bid to bring us together, it is just the same old people taking part.

Yr 2 biz adder, that is an interesting observation, you are right, I always see the same pple at the events.

But networking is communication and that means it is a two-way conversation, maybe even multidirectional. THere may or may not be a disconnect between students and admin, but at least our admin tries to be better. Send in your feedback, anonymous email or whatever, to  our Biz Sch admin because you can be sure they will do teir best to facilitate. The reason why our current networking events lack variety or might be boring to some, is because the admin only listens to a very vocal and narrow group of students.

THeir biggest fear is probably lack of feedback from their "customers" -- us, the students.
